How to do self test to determine if your heart function well?


Research has shown that as you age , your eating habits gets worse, thus increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Your heart is the most important muscle in your body. A simple test can help you determine how well your heart is functioning.

The best time to check your pulse is first thing in the morning. The heart rate should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute. To take your pulse, use a watch with second hand. Place the first two fingers of your right hand between the bone and tendon of your left wrist. Count the beats for fifteen seconds, and then multiply by four to find the beats per minute. If your pulse remains rapid, consult your Doctor to rule out problems. A chronically high pulse rate is a precursor of hypertension. Taken daily, this pulse test can for warn you of oncoming illness. Since heart is the most active muscle in the body, it requires proper nutrition. Poor nourishment has a profound effect on the heart.

Make sure your diet is well balanced and contains plenty of fiber. Some studies have found that among the sources of dietary fiber cereal, vegetables, and fruits- that fiber from breakfast cereals appears to be the most beneficial. For protein eat broiled fish and skinless chicken or turkey. Include garlic and onions in your diet
as they contain a compound that helps reduce serum cholesterol levels. Add raw nuts (except peanuts), olive oil, pink salmon, trout, Atlantic herring and mackerel in your diet as they contain essential fatty acids.

Do not consume stimulants, such as coffee and black tea that contains caffeine. Studies show that coffee increases stress hormones in the body, putting coffee drinkers at greater risk of heart disease. Also avoid tobacco, alcohol. chocolate, sugar, read meat and fats (particularly animal fats and hydrogenated oils), fried foods and white flour product such as white bread.

Drink at least 5 glasses of water. Eliminate all sources of sodium in your diet. Read the labels. Keep your weight down. Obesity is a risk factor for heart attacks and high blood pressure. Get regular moderate exercise. Ginkgo Biloba can benefit cardiovascular system by preventing the formation of free radicals. Take it only if it's not contraindicated in your condition.
