What to know more about Anemia?

Anemia is not a disease, but rather a symptom of various illnesses. Anything that causes a deficiency in the formation or production of red blood cells or that leads to a rapid of red blood cells can cause anemia. It is sometimes the first detectable sign of arthritis, infection, or certain major diseases such as cancer.

Drug use, hormonal disorders, chronic inflammation in the body, surgery, peptic ulcers, hemorrhoids, diverticular diseases, heavy menstrual bleeding, repeated pregnancies, liver damage, thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, bone marrow
disease and dietary deficiencies( especially deficient in iron, folic acid and
vitamin B-6and vitamin B-12 can all lead to anemia.

Most common cause of anemia is iron deficiency. Iron is the most important factor in anemia because this mineral is used to make hemoglobin, the compound of red blood cells that attaches to oxygen and transport it.

Iron deficiency anemia can be caused by insufficient iron intake / or absorption, or by significant blood loss. The latter is commonly seen in women who suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding which in turn may be caused by hormonal imbalance, fibroid tumors or uterine cancer Women who used and intrauterine device (IUD) for contraception are also at higher risk of blood loss and those overuse anti-inflammatory drug medications such as aspirin or motrim, or advil, which can cause blood loss through
irritation of the digestive tract.

Older people who used aspirin excessively can lead to internal bleeding. Anemia symptoms can easily go unrecognized. The 1st signs of developing anemia may be the loss of appetite, constipation, headaches, irritability, difficulty in concentrating.

Established anemia can produce such symptoms as weakness, fatigue, coldness of the extremities, depression, overall pallor, most noticeable in pale and brittle nails, pale lips and eyelids, soreness in the mouth and in women cessation of menstruation Anemia has also linked to a loss of libido. Because iron is removed through the stool, do not eat foods high in iron or iron supplement at the same time as fiber,

Avoid using bran as a source of fiber. Do not take calcium, Vitamin E, zinc or antacid at the same time you are taking iron supplement. These can interfere with iron absorption. Avoid beer, candy bars, dairy products, ice cream and soft
drinks.Additives in these foods interfere with iron absorption. For the same reason avoid coffee ( which contains poly phenols) and tea (which contains tannins).

Eat foods in moderation containing oxalic or omit them is better when taking iron supplement as it hinders an iron absorption. Foods high in oxalic includes almonds, cashews, chocolate, kale, cocoa, rhubarb, soda, Swiss nuts, sorrel, spinach and most nuts and beans and Soya belongs to the bean family.
