Back in Tabuk

Yesterday one of the employees in our company returned. Actually he resigned before when I was new here, around one year to be exact. I asked him why, what happened to his business and he said that it is very hard to strike a root in the Philippines especially if your capital is very small. The competition is very stiff and if you have small money to start, big companies and rich businessmen will just eat your capital.

He has a family with two kids and they are now going to school so what he earned is not enough for the daily expenses and school expenses that is why he said he decided to return back to our company. My boss accepted him without hesitation because he has a good performance before and he left the company in a nice way. He exit gracefully. This is what I am interested you know if you are an employee, do not burned the bridge. There are many people who are good and excellent to their field but they do not have work ethics and they don't respect their company so what happened is that they do not have a nerve to return. We sometimes have grievance with our company but I will tell you that there is no perfect company anyway. Different company, different policy so just take one day at a time. There is a saying that if you could not bear the heat, get out from the kitchen, but don't ruin the kitchen anyway.

My piece of advice is to love your work or job, remember there are many people out there who are jobless and no food to eat. Don't commit the same mistake that other people did. It reminds me of a certain guy who was very boastful and arrogant, well right now he is jobless, he spilled the milk at the height of his promotion. To balance your life, you must concentrate on your health and wealth and be happy. Without a permanent source of income is not healthy at all.

The best way to grow your company is to hire people who are fit to work. There are many employees who are good and talented but they are in the wrong boat so to speak. The problem lies in the personnel department wherein they will hire a bright person but not good in field which they are supposed to work, this is a mismatch situation. Sometimes by conducting an interview, you will be amazed on how he answers the questions that you tend to believe that this person can be placed as vice president of the company. There are people who are good and can ace the interview but when you accept them you will be disappointed by their performance. Sometimes attitude is better than credentials. Age does not matter

My father was a teacher when he was younger until the age of 60. People in these places are uneducated and never know that there is a government exists. What they knew is that they have a tribal leader and that is their government. My father taught there for a long time, opening an informal school from village to village without extra effort from the government.

When my father retires, he thought that he can enjoy his life with his monthly retirement salary from the government but he was disappointed because the monthly that he received could not even sustain to his personal need. He still needs other source of income to sustain what he need daily. This is just one story from many old folks that we have. They believed that life is easy after the long period of time servicing their boss like the government and some big companies out there that became rich because of this people who are builders but employees only. Mind setting to our people are very clear that you have to finish your college and land a good job, marry and climb the ladder in the corporate world.

Aside from developing your skills in the company where you work, you need to build your own empire and start doing it at early stage so when you retire there is another big source of income waiting for you. But if you have not done it, don’t worry because there are retirement part time jobs out there for our senior citizen who need jobs because they don’t have retirement portfolio. In today’s trend, many people who are over 65 years old are still working to pay for their groceries. You are not alone if you are in this situation. You can still apply what you were doing when you where young.
